Clinical Coding training Provided by Medics Occupational Skills Training
This course is designed and provided by Medics for those seeking to continue the journey of a clinical coding career. It includes nationally recognized clinical coding skill set with recognition of prior learning for those who have already achieved competency in medical language application and use. It includes explanations, theory, practice exercises for abstracting and coding. And also, it encourages students to develop their self-learning skills, analyze coding standards, teaching workplace mentoring and develops coders to undertake more advanced coding activities. It is designed for those seeking to continue the journey of a clinical coding career.
Mode of delivery
Medical Coding is a Hybrid course (synchronous and asynchronous) designed to help participants progress with flexibility, tutor support and chat facilities. Online with tutor support (participants don’t have to work on their own). That means participants are expected to attend virtual classes and spend some time at home completing a Hybrid Assignment each week. The course is split into weeks with specific course material and assignments that build on one another each week as you progress through the course. The skills are taught as modules, including electives. Participants may progress at their own rate and start whenever you wish. Suggested pace of 1 module every week each of which will take students approximately 15 hours to complete.
Structure and what to expect
In order to help participants prepare for cortication exams, quiz-taking & discussion will be arranged in weekly basis. To also help participants prepare for the rigor and self-mastery necessary to thrive in the medical coding workforce, participants must also learn to manage their own time and stay on top of their list of projects.
Program Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
• distinguish definitions of different medical term components and identify the meaning for various medical acronyms and abbreviations using short answer tests.
• show comprehension of anatomical and physiological information learned on multiple choice tests.
• locate and identify medical diagnoses by translating them into ICD-10-CM codes.
• locate and identify medical diagnoses by translating them into ICD-10-CM codes.
• locate and identify medical procedures, supplies, and services by translating them into CPT and HCPCS codes.
• identify information abo order to complete job applications; create a resume, cover letter, thank you letter to use to obtain employment.
• demonstrate understanding of correct coding guidelines by completing coding simulations and reviews.
• demonstrate understanding of appropriate workplace relationships by reading articles and responding to thought-provoking questions.
• demonstrate understanding of the role and responsibilities of a clinical coder
• Identify and evaluate clinical data from simple medical records (abstract data from records for clinical coding)
• Assign codes to clinical data as required for morbidity reporting
• Apply knowledge of medicine and healthcare systems as required for accurate clinical coding of simple records
• Enter coded data into computer systems
